Walking Humbly with God
Thoughts on Micah 6:8
Doing "good" can be quite subjective with no moral basis - when left up to the world or society, what is good seems to change multiple times in every generation. However, many times in Scripture we see this much more objectively ... here in Micah we have one of the more well-known passages on this topic:
He has told you, O man, what is good;
and what does the LORD require of you
but to do justice, and to love kindness,
and to walk humbly with your God? - Micah 6:8
Note that it is not just a suggestion - it is required. And if you don't fulfull these, you walk in sin against a Holy God with just due penality - I pray you have Someone to mediate on your behalf before The Judge - but I digress ...
Justice ...
Kindness (or as some translations use, Mercy) - and not just these, but to 'love' them ...
Walk humbly with God ...
Even though the world may have very different definitions on Justice, and maybe even loving kindness or mercy - to walk in humility WITH God ... our God (note the personal association given here) makes this absolutely impossible to do on our own.
We could spend hours talking about biblical justice, biblical kindness or mercy, and even spend a great deal on what does it look like to "love" these ...
However walking in humility with a personal God (who is our LORD) seems to be (for me) one of the easiest "balance checks" I can do in my life. Perhaps in some prideful sense we may be able to convice ourselves that we are doing well with justice, kindness, mercy ... which even though I dont know you - spoiler alert - we aren't.
Yet walking humbly with my God ... *takes a deep breath in* ... that's the check I so often need ... pride, control (or simple absentmindedness towards His presence) can rise up so quickly.
May I start this Saturday in Him, and for Him ...
Walk humbly with your God church ...
~Matthew
