Embracing Suffering and Mocking for the sake of Christ

In Acts 10:25-26, Peter's refusal of Cornelius's act of worship, stating, 'Stand up; I myself am also a man,' resonates deeply with Matthew Henry (1662-1714) and his reminder that 'Christ's faithful servants would rather endure vilification than deification.'

In a world where sharing one's faith can lead to rejection (and even hatred), Henry's insight serves as a powerful reminder of Christian discipleship. The temptation of being praised is filled with the sin of pride, which is enmity with God.

Embracing suffering for Christ should be our source of joy, as through trials, we draw closer to Him. Like Peter redirecting Cornelius's worship to the true God, we must walk away from the pursuit of personal glory, finding fulfillment in serving the Lord with humility and selflessness.

Point to Christ, even when it comes at a cost ...
