Psalm 1 - A line in the sand

Placed first, this Psalm of simple yet profound wisdom clearly lays out two paths to follow. May we choose wisely.

As I begin this journey again through the Psalms, I can't help but think of the words from Jesus in when I read this opening Psalm.

"Do you think that I have come to give peace on earth? No, I tell you, but rather division." (Luke 12:51

Harsh? Really just simple truth, and a simple yet critical choice. A line was drawn in the sand ... there is no "sitting on the fence". We must choose.

Here also in Psalm 1, we see a similar choice - that of the righteous, and that of the wicked. Stark constrasting outcomes of each ...

Yet at the heart of this Psalm is seen in almost every resource and commentary I read ...

delight and meditate

"but his delight is in the law of the LORD,

and on his law he meditates day and night." (Psalm 1:2)

Almost all of us reading this can find a way to 'feed ourselves' that next meal, yet we starve ourselves on the Word of God. We expect to battle the day with little to no nourishment from God Himself by ignoring the very Words He gave us to sink our roots into.

May we seek to not just start our day in Him, or end our day in Him ... but wash our day in His Word, meditating on it until our roots sink deep into His Truth and we can not but bring forth His Fruit ...

His,

~Matthew
