Psalm 4 - Joy

There are so many things about Psalm 4 that I love, but I continue to be drawn to verse 7 and the Joy that God brings into my heart.

Psalm 4:7

You have put more joy in my heart

than they have when their grain and wine abound. (ESV)

So often we choose a temporary rush of something fun over lasting joy. It may be the pleasure that comes from a surprise gift or bonus from work, or a darker pleasure of sin that lies to us with promises of satisfaction that leave us unsatisfied and wallowing in guilt and shame.

Much like David here, the earthly pleasures mentioned (I envision a festive party here!) will never give us more joy than God. Even at their best, those family holiday gatherings (that actually go well – and are filled with much laughter!) can still never compare to Him …

Yet … if we just continue to seek out fun, and not Him, we will so often miss out!

May we seek the Living Water that will never leave us thirsty again!

His,
Matthew
