Just Fishin'

'Simon Peter, Thomas (called the Twin), Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two others of his disciples were together. Simon Peter said to them, "I am going fishing." They said to him, "We will go with you." They went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing. ' - John 21:2-3

So after all of this ... Jesus's choosing of them, His ministry, His teachings, His miracles, and ultimately march to the cross ...

 ... and then ... He's gone.

So they return back to what was comfortable ... what was known ... what was easy ...

Yet to me, this is such a clear showing of the need for God ... the Holy Spirit ...
'Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you. ' - John 16:7

So then what happened after the Holy Spirit did come?

     Boldness! Oh my, boldness!

'Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated, common men, they were astonished. And they recognized that they had been with Jesus. ' - Acts 4:13

These simple fishermen ... who were unsure of everything after Calvary, who ran in fear, who didn't know what to do, suddenly turned the world upside down through the power of the Holy Spirit!

So what are we doing? Are we moving forward with Him, or going back to comfort?

Let's not go back to fishing folks ...

Peter and John's boldness was seen and attributed to one thing ... their proximity to Jesus.

Let us draw close to Him, and find that boldness awaiting for us ...

His,
~Matthew
