Samson

Judges Chapters 13 through 16 tells us of a very well known story ... the story of Samson!

I find it increasingly more bizarre each time I read this story how twisted the stories I learned as a child were. Elevating Samson and his strength, the stories of his glorious fights, the deception of Delilah, and his ultimate revenge.

Yet the story of Samson is really a story of brokenness ... an absolute mess of one completely out of control.

Samson was among other things, prideful, foolish, sinful, arrogant, quick-tempered, selfish, vengeful, and may I say ... a bit stupid too!

4 Chapters (a huge amount of text for one individual) was devoted to his story, and to think it was to highlight his amazing strength would miss the mark so incredibly.

So why?

Perhaps ... because for all that Samson was ... we are too.

Perhaps ... because God shows through this story that He can and will even use people like Samson ... like us ...

Such a pity so many trivial stories and children's coloring pages are filled with Samson and his exploits ... instead of the more powerful story ... the True story.

There is one big difference however (that is if you are reading this) between us and him ... Samson is dead ... we are not. Samson ended his story in pride ... we have yet to tell ours.

Feel any similarities? Let's let God write a new ending for us ... after all, He is the Author.
