Singleness Devotion While Married

I, partially by choice, and mostly by blessing, was not called to singleness. I can't relate to the choice (or struggle) but I can clearly see the challenges as a Christian that Paul describes in 1 Corinthians 7.

'I want you to be free from anxieties. The unmarried man is anxious about the things of the Lord, how to please the Lord. But the married man is anxious about worldly things, how to please his wife, and his interests are divided. And the unmarried or betrothed woman is anxious about the things of the Lord, how to be holy in body and spirit. But the married woman is anxious about worldly things, how to please her husband. I say this for your own benefit, not to lay any restraint upon you, but to promote good order and to secure your undivided devotion to the Lord. ' - 1 Corinthians 7:32-35

There is a constant struggle for devotion that both Marceen and I have to make daily, to remain devoted to our #1 in our marriage, God. Without Him, we would not have what we have ...

Yet while Paul clearly reiterates the blessings of marriage, and how many are called to such a union, there is no doubt that if one can remain pure from the obvious temptations, that we can be much more devoted and focused on serving Him with less distractions.

So for me, I simply need to constantly refocus and ask myself the question: How in my own married life can I please the LORD today?

At this stage it's often through my role as a husband and father; simply godly partnership with my wife and raising my children in the discipline and instruction of the LORD. However the "things of the LORD" mentioned by Paul above reach far beyond that, and into various spheres of influence that He has placed me.

So again I ask the question ... and need to daily tune out the distractions and listen for the answer ...

How can I please the LORD today?

His,
Matthew
