Legacy

The dictionary would define legacy as something handed down ... a gift, a possession, and inheritance even ... but I've always seen it as something so much more ... something just as real, but maybe less tangible.

I think a lot about legacy ... being a husband, father to four, and a representative of Christ in the world, I know my name will vanish away over the years ... but it's not my name that I want to glorify, it is His ...

When I think of King David and his legacy, many things come to mind, but it's always interesting to see how those long before us thought of him ...

Buried in a list of names in Nehemiah, easily read through without notice, he is mentioned ...

Not as King David ... or David, the Giant Killer ... or even in this case David son of Jesse ... or father of ... but yet something more humble ... more simple ... and so much more important.

'And after them went Hoshaiah and half of the leaders of Judah, and Azariah, Ezra, Meshullam, Judah, Benjamin, Shemaiah, and Jeremiah, and certain of the priests' sons with trumpets: Zechariah the son of Jonathan, son of Shemaiah, son of Mattaniah, son of Micaiah, son of Zaccur, son of Asaph; and his relatives, Shemaiah, Azarel, Milalai, Gilalai, Maai, Nethanel, Judah, and Hanani, with the musical instruments of David the man of God. And Ezra the scribe went before them. ' - Nehemiah 12:32-36

"The man of God"

Now that's a legacy ... now that is something that really matters ...
