Psalm 78 - Spirals
I remember using an app to create this cool spiral drawing - like the ones I used to do as a kid with actual pencils and paper. Less messy, less fun, but still cool!
Reading Psalm 78 reminded me of another type of spiral God's people find themselves in ...
This spiral of ...
- Crying out for Help
- God Saves
- We Rebel (again)
- God Disciplines
- ::repeat::
Though while we can relate to this "spiral" there is something very ... painful ,,, about it. Not that we have this spiral, but the havoc that we create ... the hurt we often give ... and moreso against God.
These aren't light-hearted mistakes - these are wretched sins before a Holy God.
In this Psalm we read the following ways God's people grieved their Creator ...
They ...
... still sinned
... did not believe
... lied to Him
... were not steadfast
... were not faithful
... rebelled against Him
... grieved Him
... tested Him
... provoked Him
... did not remember Him
How heart-breaking ...
May we realize not just the spiral that we are in, but the sin it produces. May His Grace and Mercy lead us to repent, not bathe in taken-for-granted-forgiveness. Blood paid for this ... His Blood ...
Sit with Him tonight - there is never 'enough' confession ... He is merciful ... so loving ... but we need to confess ... and repent.
His,
~Matthew
