Disciples follow the Teacher

“Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to sin, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were drowned in the depth of the sea. Woe to the world because of offenses! For offenses must come, but woe to that man by whom the offense comes!”

- ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭18‬:‭6‬-‭7‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

I think it’s important to live in the tension between antinomianism and legalism. Yes, we are free in Christ. Yes, sin has no more reign over us. Yes, we are no longer condemned. But we should never take lightly how serious it is to be a stumbling block for the church—or even worse, to encourage, even indirectly, others to sin through our own sin.

In some ways, this can be as simple as a foul joke that brings dishonor to God and to our lips, yet causes a domino effect of confusion, misunderstanding, and hurt. Our words and actions can damage hearts so easily.

This is a sober reminder that every day we are called to live as ambassadors of Christ. We know we are not perfect, but to be a disciple—to truly follow our Master—we must walk in His footsteps.
