Forgiven — and Made Clean

I’ve been reflecting lately on the difference between being forgiven and being made clean.

We often talk about forgiveness, and rightly so. But Scripture reminds us that our sins weren’t just overlooked — they were dealt with.

We were covered in filth, stained and dirty from head to toe. And then Christ came and washed us clean. He clothed us with a new garment. And even though we continue to struggle and still sin, our cleanness and purity in Him remain.

But after He cleaned us, He looked at the filth — He looked at the sin — and something still had to be done with it.

So our Lord, perfect and holy, picked up our filth and our sin and bore it Himself, taking it to the tree of death so that it could die forever.

Our cleanliness cost something very dear.

Free to us — unimaginably costly to the Son of God.

And of course, we know… it didn’t end there.

Three days later…
