Distinguish and Teach

For context sake, shortly after the death of Aaron's two sons for violating God's law seemingly moments after they took office as priests, the LORD spoke to Aaron:

You are to distinguish between the holy and the common, and between the unclean and the clean, and you are to teach the people of Israel all the statutes that the LORD has spoken to them by Moses.” - (Leviticus 10:10–11 ESV)

I think this instruction served also as a warning and reminder to Aaron considering this followed what all just took place. While we want to be careful not to take a specific message given for someone else and try to apply it to us (inappropriately), we clearly can learn and get to know the character of God through these instructions. In this case however, I think it is safe to say with other Scripture supporting that we too are called to "distinguish" and "teach" others.

Yet how can we distinguish if we don't understand the measuring Tool? How can we instruct if we don't understand the Material?

It is also critical to remind ourselves that in order to distinguish and teach the difference between sin and righteousness, and properly share the Word of God, we must know it ourselves as well. We too, like them, must study, pray, and meditate.

Life indeed will get busy - and will try and teach a lesson of its own; that it is too busy to spend time with our LORD, when the real need is quite the opposite!

May we all - like I needed to hear this morning - be reminded and draw near to the LORD. Both for ourselves, and for where God calls us to go ...

His,
~Matthew
