Promises in Ezekiel

In the book of Ezekiel, there's a recurring theme where God warns about impending judgment against His enemies, emphasizing that when it eventually happens, "they will know I am the LORD."

Then in chapter 34, there are beautiful passages about God seeking out His people and promising a covenant of peace, which seems to be a dual promise related to the upcoming Messiah.

Amidst this, hidden in verse 27, we see a very different “they shall know that I am the LORD”

“And the trees of the field shall yield their fruit, and the earth shall yield its increase, and they shall be secure in their land. And they shall know that I am the LORD, when I break the bars of their yoke, and deliver them from the hand of those who enslaved them.”

This verse to me is a powerful reminder of how God can simultaneously convey both wrath and love - as His wrath is just, and His love is unwavering.

May we show ourselves to be true to our profession of faith as we persevere to the end, and see the power and justice of God as our freedom from sin becomes complete, and we rest in His perfect peace eternally …
