Beginning with What Was Given
"Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning with this Scripture he told him the good news about Jesus." - Acts 8:35
Today in my morning reading, this verse was just laid on my heart by the LORD.
For those of you that know the story, Philip was led by the Holy Spirit to a man who was reading Scripture (a passage from Isaiah) and had questions. There is much to unpack here if we wanted to set up camp for a while.
However — today — what struck me is that Philip simply started with what was already in front of him and used it as an opportunity to point someone to Christ.
It's such a good reminder that whether it's a Bible passage, a theological question, a question about life, or just an everyday conversation, God often gives us openings to speak of Him.
Yet I think we often waste them (for a variety of reasons). Sometimes it's because we're not sure the conversation is going to go down a path where we have all the answers. Yet we don't need to force anything or have all the answers. Like Philip, we can begin with what we've been given and, as God leads, simply point others to the good news about Jesus.
Time is precious. May we use it wisely.
Be well church ...
