Compass Reset: Midweek Reminders from Psalm 9
Happy Wednesday, and welcome to our midweek His Path Daily Route Update!
Whether we’re behind the wheel or walking with CHRIST, it’s easy to get distracted, drift off course, or just lose focus. Midweek is a great time to pause, recalibrate, and realign with our True North. It’s been a few days since many of us gathered for worship on the Lord’s Day—and this is a great time to reset our direction and refresh ourselves on the journey HE has planned for us.
This week, we’ll turn our attention to Psalm 9, especially the opening two verses:
“I will praise You, O LORD, with my whole heart; I will tell of all Your marvelous works. I will be glad and rejoice in You; I will sing praise to Your name, O Most High.”
— Psalm 9:1–2 (NKJV)
We could expand this psalm further, but even just these two verses give us four powerful ways to recalibrate our walk—even as we walk through trials.
Notice I didn’t say if we are walking through trials. Let’s be honest: life itself is a trial. And yet, while HE calls us to walk through storms, HE does not call us to be miserable. So if we are—perhaps we’re missing something. Maybe this Text will help us today.
Here are four things David models for us in this passage that I thought I’d mention—not as commands or a checklist for legalism, but as simple, helpful ways we too can reset our hearts:
Praise YOU
Have you simply paused to praise HIM today?
Maybe your trials are easing—praise Him for that!
Or maybe you’re still in the middle of a downpour—may we have the strength to praise HIM even there.
Praise isn't about pretending the storm isn't real—it’s about remembering that HE is more real.
Tell of YOU
Have you told anyone about CHRIST today?
I often hear this and immediately think of full-on evangelism. And what a joy when that opportunity comes! But don’t overlook the small, powerful moments:
-
A handwritten encouragement card
-
A text message with Scripture
-
Telling your regular barista, “Hey, if you ever need prayer, I’m happy to pray for you.”
-
Handing out a tract with a smile
You don’t need a special occasion to tell of His marvelous works.
Rejoice and Be Glad in YOU
Take a moment—alone, out loud.
I love stepping outside when the sun is shining on my face and just rejoicing in the life HE has given me—trials and all—and thanking HIM for saving me from the pit.
Let your emotions come naturally. While they can mislead, and while HIS truth is our anchor, GOD created us as emotional beings. Some of the most tender counsel I’ve received from the Holy Spirit has come when I was raw, honest, and unfiltered—through laughter or tears. He is there.
Sing of YOU
Music is such a gift, isn’t it?
Praise songs that overflow with thanksgiving…
Worship songs that lift HIS HOLY NAME…
And timeless hymns that root our hearts in truth.
Sing to HIM. Praise HIM.
And if you're able—write a song to HIM. It doesn't have to be perfect. It just has to be from the heart.
“I will praise You, O LORD, with my whole heart; I will tell of all Your marvelous works. I will be glad and rejoice in You; I will sing praise to Your name, O Most High.”
— Psalm 9:1–2 (NKJV)
I pray that this Text—far more than any words of mine!—helps you get your compass pointed back to True North.
His,
~Matthew
